storySTEM®has been designed specifically for pre-school children, aged 3 to 5 years, introducing STEM through stories. Every story has been purpose written for the programme, to facilitate explorations around different themes that help us make discoveries about the natural world and its processes.

Beginning the session with a warm up activity we’ll then move onto our story, with accompanying games and/or songs, and finally we’ll tackle the weekly challenge by being creative problem solvers.   It might be that we need to rescue stranded pirates from a deserted island, help an alien to get back home or find a way to keep our birds from going hungry.

At the heart of these interactive sessions are the characteristics of effective learning, exploring through practical experiences that engage children and enable them to make links between existing knowledge and develop new ideas.

Supporting you to deliver the statutory framework (2021)

  • Communication and Language skills- collaborative working, asking questions, sharing opinions, speculating and discussing solutions
  • PSED- co-operating with others, following instructions, showing independence, resilience and perseverance
  • Physical Development- in using tools to create e.g., scissors, tape and elastic bands
  • Literacy- new vocabulary, reasoning, sharing opinions, storytelling
  • Mathematics- shape, space, measure, patterns, sorting, grouping and counting
  • Understanding the world- exploring the world around us!
  • Expressive Arts and Design- using a range of materials to design and create
